Not sure if this has been done before, but I had my loose socks on the other day along with knee highs. The loose ones kept falling down because I had the knee highs pulled up as far as they could go over my knee and up my thigh, so it was making them more sheer/slippery, and when I pulled the knee highs down, the elastic was bothering me because it was in the sensitive spot right under my knee where the calf starts. so I pulled them down a little more and stuffed the top of the loose socks into the knee highs in an act of trying to make the elastic strangle go away and keep my dumb socks up… and I noticed they stayed up and kept the wrinkles in place better XD (I’ve worn loose socks with REAL thigh high socks before, thicker ones, and they stayed up great).
I made this earlier today when I was purposely doing it and thought I’d take photos in case some of you don’t know about it.
I know when I use socks glue it’s annoying and itches. It makes me have ingrown hairs too AND pulls on my skin when I’m walking >_< it’s also expensive (3-6$ for a tiny ass tube plus shipping) and you have to special order it if you’re not in Japan or near a Japanese shop. If you’re sitting in a chair and cross your legs (like I am now), laying around in bed or wherever, even getting in and out of cars, the socks get caught on things or tugged on by the seat, it pulls the glue apart. You have to keep gluing them back together and you end up wasting gallons of glue for one stupid day. Some of you are probably saying not to use glue around the house or lounging in bed, but when you’re freezing your ass off, you want those fuckers to stay on! XD
This tuck-in version makes that happen less if at all and you save money/it’s quicker to fix. I’ve had mine like this all day actually and they’re still up. It also makes them warmer when it’s freezing out and if you’re not allowed to wear loose socks but sneak them in (like a lot of Japanese students do - not sure if this would be an issue anywhere else) and don’t want your black socks to show, this is a good way to hide the black kneehighs they make you wear with the uniform. And if any teachers happen to walk by you can quickly pull them off and your normal socks will be there without having to change out and in again (Unless the girls wear them and glue them just above the black ones. But I’ve seen girls with the black ones just sticking out the top. Not sure if it’s for friction, style or if they’re just falling onto them. Or maybe they flipped the black ones frontwards onto the top of the loose ones to keep them up?)
The words are a bit small but the photos are pretty self explanatory. The only down side is you should take care not to stretch the top of the loose socks out because if the top band is larger than the smaller under sock’s band, it can be tricky when you fold it and lumpy where it touches your leg. I usually start up front and work my way under. I think I’ve seen garter-belts (elastic circular bands, not the hang-down ones) or something be used with this type of method too. But like I said, this is for extra warmth and can be used to hide normal socks/keep wrinkles in place better. They still fall down in time (the wrinkles) but they don’t fall near as quick as they do when your bare leg touching against the soft cotton. The sock under it causes more friction. You can still get elastic burn too, but that happens with all socks regardless after a long period of wearing them.
You can also slide the under sock down more to make it lower if you want. Wherever it’s comfortable, really.
I’ve thought about sewing elastic into my loose sock’s top or weaving in some kind of ribbon, but that would be a pain in the ass if it were too tight or not tight enough. And the ribbon idea wouldn’t be fluid enough for anything in an area always flexing and would most likely end up falling, if it isn’t strangling the area instead.
Heh ok, enough rambling. I hope this helps anyone who’s been needing a solution, and like I said before I’m not sure if this has been done or not. I’m just throwing it out there in case.
